Position: Plumber 2nd Shift Split, Tuesday-Saturday, 3:30pm-12am

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Shop Supervisor or other designated personnel, performs skilled journeyman level work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing systems, following recognized techniques and procedures according to the National and State Plumbing Code.

  • Repairs and replaces damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, and bathtubs.
  • Opens clogged drains with a plunger or snake and replaces broken or defective piping.
  • Inspects connections and other system parts for leaks and corrosion routinely.
  • Performs maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance using a computerized maintenance work order system.
  • Provides written or electronic records of work completed on a daily basis.
  • Communicates with supervisors personally or through electronic forms of communication (email, phone).

Driving Requirement

This is a driving position. Individuals will be required to provide information verifying a valid driver’s license, submit a DMV driving record, and comply with University guidelines regarding insurability.

Base Rate: $46.21 per hour

Requirements
  • Three to five years of recent full‑time experience as a plumber for a licensed contractor or maintenance organization as a journeyman plumber.
  • Current valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Journeyman’s Plumbers License.
  • High school graduate; vocational training preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, blueprints, and schematics related to plumbing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and from written or verbal instructions.
  • Skill in the use of equipment and tools used in the trade.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Strong oral, reading, writing, reasoning, and analytical skills; ability to perform calculations.
  • Physical capabilities: bend, sit, squat, stand, crawl, walk, climb, push/pull, kneel, handle objects; reach above shoulder level; fine finger movements; lift over 50 pounds.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to excessive noise.
  • Work around moving machinery.
  • Exposure to marked changes in temperature and/or humidity.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Operation of motorized equipment.
  • Work in confined quarters.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wastewater license.
  • Experience with Lochinvar boilers and sprinkler systems.
  • Specialized experience in laboratory piping and special waste systems, including acid‑resistant drain systems, RO/DI water systems piping, acid neutralization tank systems, and laboratory gas piping.
