Position: Support Engineer I, Automation (2nd shift)

Proclinical is seeking an Automation Support Engineer to join a dynamic team in the US. This role focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting automated systems to ensure seamless operational performance. This is an on‑site position supporting operations during weekday afternoon and evening hours.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a critical part in ensuring smooth operations by addressing technical issues, coordinating with research teams, and documenting activities for seamless handoffs.

Skills & Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Experience with lab automation, lab instrumentation, or production operations in life sciences or physical sciences.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot electro‑mechanical equipment and software systems.
  • Strong written communication skills for effective shift handoff documentation.
  • Flexibility to work a designated weekday shift on‑site.
Bonus Skills
  • Familiarity with liquid handlers, plate‑based workflows, or high‑throughput screening instrumentation.
  • Experience with lab scheduling or workflow orchestration software (e.g., Cellario).
  • Basic scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python,

    C) for log analysis or diagnostics.
  • Exposure to robotic integration platforms or multi‑instrument workcell environments.
  • Background in multi‑shift operations with structured handoffs.
The Automation Support Engineer's responsibilities will be:
  • Monitor and maintain automated workcells, addressing instrument faults, software errors, and run failures as they arise.
  • Collaborate with on‑shift research scientists to prioritize recovery efforts and ensure active experiments proceed without delays.
  • Troubleshoot electro‑mechanical and software systems, determining when to resolve issues immediately or elevate to day‑shift engineers for extended fixes.
  • Identify recurring failure patterns and communicate them to the engineering team for root cause analysis.
  • Perform routine maintenance, setup, and teardown to ensure reliability across shifts.
  • Document shift events, decisions, and unresolved issues to provide clear updates for the day team.
