Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to install, repair and maintain pipes, fixtures and other plumbing equipment used for water distribution and waste water disposal in all facilities at the Cambridge Housing Authority(“Authority” or “CHA”).

All activities must support the Authority’s strategic goals and objectives and produce results that accomplish the goals of the Operations department.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience

High school diploma, GED or possession of a vocational technical certification beyond high school and at least five to seven years experience in the plumbing trade with at least one year of experience in a supervisory capacity. Must possess a valid Massachusetts Master Plumber’s License. Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Building Code is a plus. Must have valid Massachusetts driver’s license and be insurable under CHA policies.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong background in math, measurements and safety as well as strong knowledge of plumbing installation, repair and maintenance. General knowledge of basic computer programs (MS Office products) is desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The below statements describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews building plans and specifications to determine the layout for plumbing and related materials
  • Identifies and selects the necessary tools, pipes and fittings for each task
  • Possess the ability to draw diagrammatic plumbing plans for installations and training and layout of plumbing work
  • Installs supports and hangers for pipes, fixtures and equipment
  • Installs, repairs and maintains sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters and conditioners, boilers, plumbing fixtures, appliances, and trim, etc
  • Tests pipe systems and fixtures for leaks
  • Repacks assorted sized valves and faucet assemblies
  • Performs scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures
  • Applies all federal, state, and local codes to installations, repairs and maintenance
