Position: Principal Medical Device Software Engineer (Python/C++)
Medtronic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our Affera Mapping and Ablation System Software Team. This role is pivotal in designing and developing intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that enhance the usability and functionality of our advanced medical devices.

This role offers a rare chance to be at the forefront of developing The ideal candidate should possess expert-level proficiency in Python and C++, and have a deep understanding of software engineering principles, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and software architecture. The candidate should have a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering large-scale projects, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical technical decisions.

Experience with embedded systems is beneficial, as well as a solid understanding of network communication protocols and technologies. The candidate should be skilled in developing and debugging software that interfaces with hardware components.

Experience with regulatory compliance and security protocols specific to medical software (e.g., HIPAA, FDA regulations) is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver at heart, adept at diagnosing and resolving complex problems while optimizing for performance. With a passion for continuous learning and improvement, they stay ahead of the curve, leveraging the latest technologies and methodologies to drive efficiency and innovation within the software development team.
** Primary Responsibilities
** Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, product managers, and quality assurance, to define software requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
** Required Qualifications
** Bachelor's degree and 7 years of relevant experience

OR Master’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience

OR PhD with 3 years relevant experience
** Preferred Qualifications
** Expert-level proficiency in Python and C++Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment

Extensive experience in software development, with a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex software systems

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical technical decisions Extensive experience in real-time software development and optimization

Experience with ROS, embedded systems and/or real-time operating systems

Experience with software version control systems, such as Git

Experience with Agile development methodologies

Experience with cloud-based platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure) Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices, including automated testing and deployment Proficiency with development of software on Linux operating system
