About this role

As a Software Development Engineer, you are responsible for researching, defining, designing, and refining the technology that keeps Audible one step ahead of listeners. You will help build and maintain a platform that brings thousands of stories to millions of listeners and unlocks the power of the human voice. Your work will involve collaborating with stakeholders, reviewing and mentoring teammates, and ensuring high quality and performance.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and test software components for Audible’s creator and provider platform.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop, test, and launch software that impacts customers and inspires peers.
  • Apply a broad range of data structures and algorithms when appropriate.
  • Clarify technical requirements, estimate development effort, and choose appropriate design approaches.
  • Review code of other team members and provide constructive direction.
  • Mentor and lead developers, cultivating curiosity and deep technical understanding.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of designing or architecting systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of software development and project management concepts.
  • Recent experience building enterprise-scale mobile applications.
  • Background in caching with support for offline transactions.
  • Competency in automation, continuous integration/deployment or chaos engineering.
  • Solid coding practices including unit testing and peer code reviews.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices, coding standards, source code management, and build processes.
