Role Overview
RTX BBN Technologies is looking for a Cyber Research Software Engineer to develop systems and software to deter and defeat our Nation’s adversaries.
Key Responsibilities- Perform advanced software development in C, with an emphasis on low‑level operations.
- Implement software and systems across a variety of architectures and operating systems.
- Analyze systems to understand how they work and what happens when they break.
- Develop unique networking protocols and communication schemes.
- Operationalize our code by thoroughly testing, documenting, and integrating with sponsor systems.
- Travel up to 15%.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
- Coursework and/or experience designing, developing, modifying, and debugging software or hardware systems or prototypes, with concrete examples of coding projects.
- Programming skills in one or more of: C, C++, Rust, Java, or Python.
- Active and transferable Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance required on day one.
- Experience with system architecture design, prototyping, and technical project leadership.
- Experience with assembly language (x86/64, ARM, PPC, MIPS, etc.).
- Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP stacks, wire‑level protocols, RF communications, BGP, etc.).
- Familiarity with security concepts (confidentiality/integrity/availability, authentication/authorization, etc.).
- Reverse engineering skills using tools such as IDA, Ghidra, and Binary Ninja.
- Capture the Flag (CTF) experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in relevant technology topics.
