Principal Engineer

I am seeking a Principal Engineer to join an elite AI-for-science initiative backed by one of the world's most successful venture creation firms. This is an opportunity to build AI-powered platforms accelerating scientific discovery, drug development, and biological research alongside world-class scientists and machine learning researchers.

You’ll join a small, highly technical engineering team building AI-first systems used directly by researchers tackling some of the most complex challenges in life sciences.

• Own the technical architecture for AI-powered products spanning scientific workflows, data infrastructure, and agentic AI systems
• Design and build production-grade software end-to-end, from APIs and data models through cloud infrastructure, deployment, and observability
• Partner directly with scientists and ML researchers to understand complex research problems and translate them into scalable software
• Lead architectural decisions around distributed systems, AI integration, data platforms, and build-versus-buy trade-offs
• Build and deploy LLM-powered applications, agentic workflows, and AI-native developer tooling
• Shape technical direction alongside product and research leaders before implementation begins
• Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, technical documentation, and thoughtful system design
• Occasionally provide technical leadership to embedded engineering contractors while remaining deeply hands-on

• Experience acting as the technical authority for complex production software systems
• Strong background building distributed systems and scalable cloud-native applications
• Experience deploying AI or machine learning systems into production, including LLMs, inference platforms, or agentic workflows
• Experience partnering closely with research or ML teams to bring experimental models into production
• Exceptional software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, observability, and maintainability
• Strong technical communication skills and the ability to thrive in highly ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Curiosity for scientific discovery and an interest in building technology that accelerates research
