Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Systems & AI Applications

We are a stealth AI healthcare company building an AI-enabled platform. The team is hiring a hands‑on Staff Software Engineer to help lead the design and implementation of production agentic systems and AI‑powered workflows across user‑facing and internal operational experiences.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role for someone who can build real production software systems, not just prototypes or demos. The right person will combine strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience integrating LLMs, retrieval, tool use, workflow orchestration, evaluation, monitoring, and safety into real applications.

What You’ll Do:
  • Design, build, and operate production agentic workflows and AI‑powered application features.
  • Develop systems using LLMs, retrieval/RAG, tool calling, context management, workflow orchestration, structured outputs, and human‑in‑the‑loop escalation.
  • Build AI‑enabled workflows across user‑facing applications, backend services, and internal operational tools.
  • Establish best practices around observability, evaluation, testing, monitoring, reliability, privacy, security, and safety.
  • Work closely with backend, frontend, product, clinical, AI, and engineering leadership teams.
  • Help make pragmatic technology decisions around agent frameworks, orchestration approaches, model capabilities, and production architecture.
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical direction while remaining deeply hands‑on.
Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience building and operating production software systems.
  • Hands‑on experience integrating LLMs into real‑world applications.
  • Experience with agentic workflows, copilots, assistants, automation systems, RAG, retrieval, tool calling, or workflow orchestration.
  • Strong software architecture and system design skills.
  • Experience with modern web application architectures, APIs, backend services, and production operations.
  • Strong understanding of testing, observability, reliability, monitoring, and deployment practices.
  • Ability to work across backend and frontend systems when needed.
  • Strong judgment around building safe, reliable, production‑grade AI systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building autonomous or semi‑autonomous agent systems in production.
  • Experience with MCP, Lang Chain, Lang Graph, Llama Index, OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, Azure OpenAI, retrieval systems, vector databases, evals, guardrails, or related technologies.
  • Experience in healthcare, healthtech, fintech, insurance, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with Python, Type Script, React, React Native, FastAPI, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, or modern distributed systems.
  • Experience evaluating and monitoring AI system quality, accuracy, grounding, safety, and failure behavior.
  • Experience influencing architecture and technical direction across teams.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Launch production AI‑powered workflows that create measurable value for users and internal teams.
  • Establish foundational engineering patterns for agentic systems and AI‑enabled application development.
  • Build reliable, observable, and safe AI systems that can operate in a regulated environment.
  • Help define the company’s long‑term architecture for agentic systems and AI‑powered workflows.
  • Become a trusted technical leader for practical AI adoption across the engineering organization.

Candidates must be local to the Boston/Cambridge area and comfortable working onsite 3 days per week.
