Title:
Seasonal CATS Camp Van Driver - Summer 2026

Rate: $20 per hour

Hours: 5 hours / day

Funded:
McKinney Vento Funding and/or General Funds

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 5 hours per day (2.5 hours morning, 2.5 hours afternoon).

Days worked are based on the 2026 Summer CATS Camp schedule.

Position Purpose

Cambridge City Schools is seeking a dependable and compassionate Van Driver to safely transport McKinney Vento students to/from the 2026 Summer CATS Camp sites.

The ideal candidate is patient, safety-focused, and committed to supporting the needs of all students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely drives a school van on days when 2026 Summer CATS Camp is in session.
  • Transports students with varying economic and other needs.
  • Assist students during boarding and exiting, including securing mobility equipment (wheelchairs, harnesses, car seats, etc.) when required.
  • Maintain safety, comfort, and supervision of students during transport.
  • Communicate effectively with transportation staff, parents, and McKinney Vento Liaison.
  • Inspects assigned van on a daily basis prior to transporting passengers to ensure that van is in good, clean, and safe working order.
  • Cleans and refuels van as needed.
  • Ensures that a communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
  • Reports all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents, promptly.
  • Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of van (e.g., oil change); transporting the van to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
  • Follows procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on the van without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed the van at the end of all van routes (morning & evening).
  • Inventories van emergency and first aid supplies and equipment and reports needs to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Prepares for van drills and ensures van evacuation drills are held as required.
  • In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written report as required.
  • Attends and participates in trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities as instructed by Supervisor.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Equipment
  • Uses standard automotive van/bus equipment and telephone.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, road signs and related information.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the van, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the van.
  • Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational, problem solving, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend information from procedures manuals and other materials.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required.
  • Ability to physically move through the van.
  • Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to lift, assist, and secure students and mobility devices as needed.
  • Strong attendance, reliability, and professionalism.
Qualifications Certification/License
  • Valid Ohio driver's license (Class

    D) with a clean driving record
  • Ability to complete and maintain all ODEW-required training for van drivers, including:
    • FBI/BCI background checks
    • Physical exam and drug screening
    • CPR/First Aid certification
    • Pre-service and annual in-service training
  • School Van Certification
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
  • Successful prior experience working as a van or bus driver, preferably in a school district or transporting children.
