Cambridge, MN Job type: part-time, up to 29 hours per week

Work schedule:

6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Candidates must be available to work various 12-hour shifts, which includes day, evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend hours. Anyone indicating limited availability will not be considered. Work setting: on site; requires regular, in-person attendance FLSA status: non-exempt Union affiliation: LELS local 209 non-licensed

Highlights: on-the-job-training provided shift differential annual uniform allowance

Compensation 2026 expected 2026 hiring range: $27.02 - $28.81 per hour ($56,201.60 - $59,924.80 annually), depending on qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity. Full range: $27.02 – $34.91 per hour ($56,201.60 – $72,612.80 annually), with the potential for additional longevity-based pay.

General definition of work performs work ensuring and maintaining the care, safety, and security for inmates and employees within the County' jail facility, performing well-being checks for inmates in custody, enforcing rules and regulations, preventing disturbances, assaults, and escapes, and inspecting facilities, performing a variety of physical safety checks such as searching for contraband, looking for signs of vandalism, structural damage and other rule violations, preparing and maintaining a variety of files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the supervision of the jail administrator. Oversight is exercised over assigned personnel.

Essential functions to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Maintains security, order, and well-being of inmates in the jail facility.
  • Books all incoming inmates; interviews to obtain medical history and criminal history; completes arrest forms and jail classification; searches inmate and secures personal property of inmate; takes photographs and fingerprints; issues jail clothing and bedding.
  • Maintains and keeps accurate jail computer logs of all events occurring in the jail facility; completes incident reports.
  • Takes custody of inmates; receives escorts and supervises all visitors, volunteers, family services staff, probation officers, and attorneys at the jail facility.
  • Supervises the daily activities of inmates, including feeding and general care, discipline, medical needs, and cleaning of cell blocks and jail facility by inmates.
  • Monitors the movement of inmates, visitors, and staff within the jail facility.
  • Monitors video cameras inside and outside jail facility.
  • Responds to intercom call requests for electronic door openings, elevator movement, emergency duress alarms, and security breach alarms by using computer touch-screen technology.
  • Completes documentation prior to release of all inmates.
  • Tests intoxicated individuals using the DMT-G alcohol testing machine.
  • Ensures pre-release orders from the court are followed (turn-in of weapons, electronic monitoring, base-line urinalysis, etc.).
  • Performs bailiff duties at traffic court, and civil and criminal trials.
  • Transports inmates to and from court and to other facilities, also transports mentally impaired individuals to and from various locations.
