Description

The Student Support Specialist, working under the direct supervision of the Principal, supports student success by addressing the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance needs of elementary students. This position works collaboratively with the building administrator, Dean of Students, teachers, SOCC, families, and community partners to implement building-wide initiatives such as PBIS, MTSS, and attendance supports. This role emphasizes individualized academic support, coordination of services, assisting in disciplinary action, and collaboration with stakeholders to promote student well‑being and preparedness for academic success.

The specialist also serves as a liaison between the school, families, and external organizations to ensure comprehensive support for students' academic, social, and emotional well‑being.

Academic Support
  • Provide direct support to students, including executive functioning skills, organizational skills, and learning gaps.
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify and support students needing academic interventions, ensuring progress is tracked and evaluated.
  • Assist with implementation and progress monitoring of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to problem‑solve student needs and barriers to success.
Intervention & MTSS Support
  • Coordinate with the Principal and Dean of Students to implement behavior interventions by coordinating, monitoring, and documenting support services and outcomes.
  • Assist in the implementation of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), using data to identify needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Provide support to students addressing academic, behavioral, emotional, and social challenges.
  • Advocate for students' needs to ensure they feel safe, supported, and engaged in their education.
Family & Community Liaison
  • Serve as a resource for families by connecting them with external services, including behavioral/mental health, financial assistance, and family support programs.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations to provide students and families with a broad network of support.
  • Participate in meetings with families, school teams, and community partners as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with counselors, administrators, Dean of Students, and teachers to align academic, behavioral, and personal support strategies.
  • Regularly communicate with parents and guardians to share student progress and available support services.
  • Continually acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.

Certification/License
  • Ohio Teaching License required for this position.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience or other related work experience.
