Description

Under the general supervision of the school principal, the Intervention Specialist will plan and implement goals and objectives, curricula, and management programs for students with disabilities. The Intervention Specialist will work as part of a team on behalf of the student with regular classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure that students with disabilities are educated in the least restrictive environment possible.

Job Summary
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans to address the specific needs of students across K‑2 grades.
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of struggling learners.
  • Provide direct instructional support in one‑on‑one, small group, and classroom settings.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, using both formative and summative data to track improvement and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and school counselors to share progress and provide strategies for continued support at home and in the classroom.
  • Facilitate small group or individual instruction based on student needs, focusing on reading, writing, mathematics, and other areas where students may require additional support.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities, English language learners, and students who may be at‑risk.
  • Conduct regular meetings and progress reports with relevant school staff to review and evaluate intervention strategies and outcomes.
  • Support the implementation of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
  • Provide professional development and training for staff on effective instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, student progress, and any communication with parents and other staff.
  • Stay current on best practices, research, and educational trends related to interventions and student support.
  • Strong knowledge of K‑2 curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with various learning styles and abilities.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and data collection tools.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to special education and student intervention.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities.
  • Knowledge of FERPA.
  • Knowledge of Ohio's Academic Content Standards.
  • Knowledge of IEP development.
  • Knowledge of current testing programs, mandated assessment tools and alternative assessment.
  • Knowledge of current educational issues and best practices.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) strategies.
  • Knowledge of effective intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of community agencies that can support students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving processes and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to use technology as both a productivity tool and as a method of communication; proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office/Google Suite.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records.
  • Ability to assess student intellectually and physically and develop appropriate individual education and behavior plans.
  • Ability to plan strategies and activities to meet identified needs of students.
  • Ability to evaluate student's progress through the utilization of established procedures, including alternate assessment, formative and summative assessments.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data.
