Job Description

Under the general supervision of the school principal, the Intervention Specialist will plan and implement goals, objectives, curricula, and management programs for students with disabilities. The specialist works as part of a team with regular classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure that students with disabilities are educated in the least restrictive environment possible.

Job Summary
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans for students in K-2 grades.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies for struggling learners.
  • Provide direct instructional support in one‑on‑one, small‑group, and classroom settings.
  • Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative data.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and counselors to share progress and provide strategies for continued support.
  • Facilitate small group or individual instruction focusing on reading, writing, mathematics, and other areas needing additional support.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs, including disabilities, English language learners, and at‑risk students.
  • Conduct regular meetings and progress reports with school staff to review intervention strategies and outcomes.
  • Support the implementation of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
  • Provide professional development and training for staff on effective instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, student progress, and communication with parents and staff.
  • Stay current on best practices, research, and educational trends related to interventions and student support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities, FERPA, Ohio's Academic Content Standards, IEP development, current testing programs, and alternative assessment.
  • Knowledge of current educational issues, best practices, behavior management techniques, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) strategies, effective intervention strategies, and community agencies that can support students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of classroom management, problem‑solving processes, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to use educational technology and data collection tools; proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records, assess students intellectually and physically, and develop appropriate education and behavior plans.
  • Ability to plan strategies and activities to meet identified needs of students; evaluate student progress through established procedures, including alternate assessment, formative and summative assessments.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data, communicate effectively in writing and oral, maintain confidentiality, and develop effective working relationships with students, co‑workers, administrators, and the public.
  • Ability to work with teachers and students to demonstrate ways of supporting students in the regular classroom, and to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate program progress and implement changes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Ohio Department of Education licensure as an Intervention Specialist.
  • BCI/FBI Background Check required.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Working Conditions
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  • Occasional interaction with unruly children; occasional safety hazards (slips/falls, falling objects).
  • May be required to deal with students with behavioral risks and restrain students with proper training.
  • Position involves stress due to responsibilities to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and procedural rules; maintaining student discipline; and maintaining effective communication with staff, students, and parents.
