Summary
Performs intermediate design and advanced drafting tasks, requiring advanced CAD skills and intermediate engineering knowledge to complete assignments, which are part of an overall project. Requires the ability to do intermediate level layouts of discipline related equipment and components, to select and/or size discipline related equipment and components for intermediate systems, apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related tasks.
Exercise of engineering judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of alternatives. Takes more of a lead role in the project, including regular communication with Customers and Vendors.

Education / ExperienceA two‑year technical associate’s degree and a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant technical experience or a four‑year technical degree and a minimum of six (6) years of relevant technical experience. A minimum of two (2) years working as a Designer. The education/experience shall be in a Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Architectural discipline featuring CAD instruction and computer skills.
Responsibilities- Prepare intermediate level designs and layouts as assigned by Discipline Engineer or Project Manager.
- Complete drawings in accordance with Company and Customer Standards including all line work, dimensioning, cross-references and CAD requirements.
- Provide and check drafting assignments to Drafters, including checking of coordination with other disciplines.
- Coordinate work with other disciplines and Team Members.
- Mentor less-experienced Designers and Drafters.
- Travel to project meetings or job sites to aid in project implementation.
- Provide material selection for basic items.
- Prepare material take‑offs, lists, schedules and reports as required to complete project documentation.
- Assist in requisitioning/inquiring project materials including bid summaries.
- Assist in creating project schedules.
Is proficient in all skills and abilities of a Designer I. Additionally, proficient in the following:
- Able to prepare Bills of Material for instruments, valves, valve operators, fire and gas detection, and lighting.
- Able to prepare technical bid summaries for valves, operators, instruments, engineered equipment and buildings, and similar items.
- Able to coordinate design development with the other disciplines in a Project Team.
- Cross checks between the disciplines.
- Regularly attend Customer and Vendor Meetings. Able to regularly communicate with Customers and Vendors.
