TEMP TO HIRE - Plant Controller
Location: Cambridge, OH 43725
Schedule: Mon-Fri | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Work Environment: In Office | Overtime as Needed
Our client in the building products industry is seeking an experienced Plant Controller to join their finance team on a temporary-to-hire basis. This role is ideal for an accounting and finance professional with strong manufacturing accounting experience who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is looking to grow their career within a dynamic production-focused organization.
The Plant Controller will play a key role in overseeing cost accounting, inventory analysis, financial reporting, budgeting, and operational finance support while partnering closely with operations and leadership teams to improve efficiency and maintain strong internal controls.
Responsibilities:
As a Plant Controller, you will be responsible for:
- Working closely with Operations teams to control costs by:
- Managing production standards
- Analyzing variances
- Implementing process improvements and best practices
- Developing and maintaining standard costs for inventory part numbers within the ERP system.
- Supporting Engineering and Product Development teams with costing analysis for new business and pricing quotes.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets and evaluating the financial soundness of RFEs.
- Communicating financial risks and tracking project spending progress for management review.
- Playing an integral role in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, with primary focus on:
- Production accounting
- Inventory
- Fixed assets
- Supporting year-end physical inventory counts and ongoing cycle count programs.
- Reconciling perpetual inventory balances to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Isolating and analyzing material pricing and usage variances.
- Assisting operations teams in resolving production and manufacturing variances.
- Reviewing monthly account reconciliations related to inventory and fixed assets.
- Tracking and reporting the financial impact and ROI of capital projects.
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls through:
- Self-testing
- Ongoing training
- Communication and remediation of control weaknesses
- Assisting with management of internal and external audits.
- Calculating and analyzing inventory reserves to ensure accurate inventory valuation.
- Collaborating with FP&A teams to provide financial analysis and operational reporting.
- Supporting additional accounting, finance, and operational projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in:
- Public accounting and/or
- Manufacturing environments
- Strong experience with:
- Manufacturing accounting
- Cost accounting
- Inventory analysis
- Financial reporting
- Experience working with ERP systems required.
- SOX compliance experience preferred but not required.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong proficiency across Microsoft Office products, including:
- Excel
- Word
- Power Point
- Teams
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial analysis.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare detailed financial reports and statements.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
