The Operating Technician Level 1 Position
The Operating Technician Level 1 is responsible for the equipment spare parts storeroom, material handling, and/or production line operations. All technicians work together with other Cambridge team members to achieve business objectives of safety, quality, productivity, customer service, cost, and environmental protection. Primary accountabilities include daily production, quality and sanitization procedures, safety compliance, equipment maintenance, materials movement, parts management, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving, and continuous improvement within a work team.
The role requires considerable interaction with team members across production units and support functions.
Core Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility on a production line may include operation, cleaning, lubrication, inspection, troubleshooting, and changeover of non‑automated and automated packaging equipment.
- Equipment includes the Casemaker, Palletizer, Stretch Wrapper, Print / Apply, Case Turner, Case Sealer, Case Packer, Leak Tester, Spout Inserter, and Bottle/Case Conveying. Understand how to access and enter equipment downtime information into the OPERA system.
- Assist maintenance and operating team members in troubleshooting and performing minor repairs on production equipment. Participate in continuous learning opportunities and seek knowledge from others to develop skills. Access EAM to issue work request notifications.
- Confirm availability of packing materials for the current and next scheduled production run. Coordinate with operating, planning, and logistic teams to ensure material availability. Use SAP/ZQUAL for production schedule and materials.
- Adhere to Colgate Quality, cGMP, and Micro standards. Perform daily quality sampling, complete shift production batch records, visual finished case/pallet checks, and area cleaning checklists. Use SAP for bill of materials verification and OPERA for entering quality check information.
- Adhere to EOHS requirements, Minimum Safe Behaviors, and wear PPE as required.
- Operate forklift for unloading materials from delivery vehicles and deliver materials to storage locations or production lines. Prepare and load finished product for shipment. Use WMS for product loading to delivery vehicle.
- Maintain the parts storeroom storage system and locate parts to support plant needs. Assist in locating parts for equipment.
- Use SAP for inventory control, parts stock overview, goods receipts, and maintenance reports. Support visual workplace (VWP) housekeeping activities and assessments. Communicate performance via visual, written, and verbal methods.
- Participate in scheduled review of team production performance and use information to support continuous improvement. Apply continuous improvement tools such as Root Cause Analysis to resolve issues.
- All team members fully utilize resources to optimize productivity and meet customer, business, and colleague needs.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Vocational school or technical institute preferred).
- Ability to work 12‑hour shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
