Contract: 180 Days
Salary: Based on years of experience and education
Location: Ewing School – 1701 Colegate Drive, Marietta, Ohio 45750
Age Group: K–12 students

Qualifications
  • Certification: Ohio Pupil Services license / School Nurse, Ohio Board of Nursing Registered Nurse
  • Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: Minimum of two years in acute care nursing with focus on pediatric/family nursing desired
Responsibilities
  • Have contemporary knowledge of child development, pathology, nursing management of common acute and chronic conditions, emotional and behavioral disorders, and chronic disabling conditions.
  • Know national, state, and local laws affecting children with disabilities and their families.
  • Understand the role of the nurse in supporting a child with a disability and the impact on family.
  • Understand the roles of IEP, MDT/IDT team members.
  • Conduct a full nursing appraisal of each child referred, including health history, physical assessment (vision, hearing, nutrition), observation in school setting, and supporting medical data.
  • Review all health records and communicate with health care providers.
  • Attend meetings, present findings, nursing diagnoses, and recommendations, and participate in writing of MFE, IEP, or other health plans.
  • Conduct assessments before periodic IEP reevaluation or on teacher request.
  • Develop and implement a nursing plan of care for each child as needed.
  • Delegate nursing services and activities to teachers, supervise their delivery, and ensure compliance with accepted nursing practice.
  • Develop training programs for teachers performing delegated nursing services.
  • Provide education, support, and counseling to parents, children, families, staff, and community regarding health care and development issues.
  • Function as a case manager and advocate for children with special health needs.
  • Perform skilled nursing procedures as necessary.
  • Serve as a school–home liaison for child/family health concerns.
  • Make home visits to gather data, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Complete required documentation and records of assessment, plan of care, and progress/outcomes.
  • Act as a resource person for school staff on health education and materials.
  • Promote child, staff, and school health safety, wellness, and disease prevention through Healthy People 2030 objectives.
  • Research and apply results of research findings to develop policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Pursue continued professional growth through education and national certification.
  • Annually review and revise the job description and nursing policies to maintain Standards of Care.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the OVESC Superintendent.
Job Requirements
  • Effective communication, active listening, and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of public school policies and practices.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use office equipment.
  • Commitment to education.
  • Ability to travel, work with unruly children, occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids, handle repetitive hand motions, lift up to 50 pounds.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
