Job Overview
The Field Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the construction of projects to ensure completion within approved budgets and schedules, regulatory, environmental, and health and safety requirements. The Field Coordinator ensures clear and effective communication and coordination between owners, field personnel, design team, maintenance and outside contractors. This position will work closely with the owner as an extension of the facilities department to manage the installation of sorting systems materials, equipment and control systems.
A strong mechanical background is required, and the role may require up to 100% travel.
- Study and understand drawings and specs; review existing industrial/commercial system configurations; develop work schedule for installation of new industrial systems outside of ongoing operating hours; provide field oversight to multiple industrial systems contractors; ensure quality assurance of work; oversee equipment and system testing and commission.
- Participate in closeout meetings between architect/engineer and contractor.
- Develop and manage contract documents, including plans, submittals, change orders, as-builts, and related documentation.
- Work with the Project Manager to maintain business plans.
- Maintain and track all field-related action items such as minutes of contractor safety meetings, superintendent daily reports, weather logs, punch list activities, and verify completion.
- Utilize software management tools to maintain all project documentation.
- Coordinate and participate in QC building envelope drawing reviews.
- Review and assist contractor with QA/QC manuals to ensure compliance with general contract conditions.
- Maintain coordination between all contractors onsite to ensure smooth work flow without interference or delay.
- Maintain good relationships with owner, architect, engineer, and other stakeholders in the regular course of project construction.
- Maintain observation report logs, daily reports, and progress photos; assist in reviewing contractor pay applications for percentage completion and material invoices for verification of fixed items versus expendables.
- Attend pre‑construction conferences addressing site‑related issues or concerns to contractor.
- Coordinate punch list work so as not to interfere with building use or project.
- Assist in review of A/E drawings & specifications for constructability, logistics, and quality issues.
- Assist A/E and project team in defining limits of the project, pedestrian safety plan, way finding signage, and construction lay‑down sites.
- Assist project team in developing individual trade scopes of work.
- Coordinate with Project Manager, Preconstruction Manager(s), and SPMs to ensure constructability reviews are incorporated into contract documents.
- Coordinate with Project Manager to establish construction milestones to be incorporated into the pre‑construction schedule.
- Review closeout checklist with Project Manager for items required from contractor.
- Assist the Project Manager in compiling the close‑out documents as required by contract documents.
- Bachelor's Degree in Building Science, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 5‑7 years of on‑site management experience in new construction and large renovation projects.
- Heavy mechanical experience.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and document management tools such as Pro Core; scheduling software such as Suretrak/P6 or MS Project.
- Valid driver’s license.
Work is performed mainly in indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to all weather and temperature conditions, and frequent travel from site to site. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; and to lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate weights.
Repetitive hand movements and fine coordination are required for daily duties. Communication, both verbal and written, is essential.
