Harris is seeking a skilled and innovative Lead, Mechanical Engineer specializing in Tool Design and Machining to join our advanced facilities in Camden, AR. This is a key role driving the development of advanced energetic assemblies for rocket propulsion. As a Lead, Mechanical Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement manufacturing strategies for rocket motor and warhead production. With a focus on creating jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated assembly equipment, you will play a critical role in modernizing our advanced manufacturing processes and supporting the seamless release of new products.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as a technical leader in the setup, launch, and optimization of new manufacturing lines, including equipment selection, process layout, and workflow design.
- Under general direction, determine approaches to objectives, demonstrating a complete understanding and application of engineering principles, concepts, and practices.
- Design, develop, and improve mechanical equipment and tooling using PTC Creo and Windchill.
- Collaborate with production, program management, and safety teams to define tooling requirements.
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues, design repairs, and implement modifications.
- Utilize CAD software to develop preliminary layouts, sketches, and design proposals.
- Investigate and decide on key design factors such as manufacturability, material selection, strength-to-weight ratio, interchangeability, and cost.
- Apply machining concepts to design and resolve issues with aerospace production tooling.
- Communicate operational processes and improvements with internal and external stakeholders.
- Achieve operational targets for assigned programs and projects with moderate departmental impact.
- Hands-on experience with machining processes (milling, turning, grinding).
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- 5+ years of experience designing manufacturing tooling.
- 5+ years using solid modeling programs (Unigraphics NX, Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD Inventor, Catia, CREO, or Solid Works).
