School Principal - Cooper's Poynt Family School (PreK-8) ROLE OVERVIEW

The Principal is the instructional, organizational, and cultural leader of the school. This vital role translates the Superintendent's vision into daily practice. The Principal will work closely with the Director of School Performance (K-5 / 6-12) and other senior district officials to ensure that students receive outstanding academic and non‑instructional support and services to set all staff and students on a path to success.

The ideal candidate builds strong community alliances and fosters an environment where teachers thrive and students achieve.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid New Jersey Principal Certificate of Eligibility or Standard Certificate (or the equivalent license from another state)
  • At least 3 years of school‑based leadership experience as a Principal, Vice Principal, or equivalent school leader role in K‑8 or another range to match Family School
  • Demonstrated success dramatically improving student achievement in low‑performing schools, and a track record of making data‑driven decisions grounded in the use of staff performance and student achievement data
  • At least 5 years of successful teaching experience in a PreK‑12 setting with demonstrated student achievement gains
  • History of effectively coaching both new and experienced teachers towards improving their ability to deliver outstanding instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing
  • A valid driver's license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to work in the U.S.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification in Administration and Supervision or Educational Leadership (with Master's Degree)
  • Advanced degree in Educational Leadership or Administration and Supervision
  • Prior leadership experience in Middle or High School in an urban turnaround school environment
  • Specialized background and training in STEM experience leadership
  • Proven track record of raising student achievement in high‑poverty or turnaround schools
  • Documented success mentoring teachers to improve instructional quality

  • Champion the success of children in high‑poverty, diverse urban communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a vision and inspire others to achieve shared goals.
  • Superior management skills, including influencing and motivating others to achieve outstanding results.
  • Coaching teachers on classroom management skills, using instructional time effectively and setting clear academic and behavioral expectations for students.
Operational & Staff Management
  • Hold difficult, professional growth conversations centered on student needs.
  • Align school goals with the district's overarching strategic plan.
  • Navigate institutional changes and obstacles with optimism and adaptability.
  • Partner with central district offices to secure staff resources.
