Position Summary
TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federal grant-funded program which serves low-income, first-generation college students, and students with a documented disability. The SSS program is charged to serve, engage, retain, and graduate participants. This program provides individual and group tutoring via professional and peer tutors (both directly and in partnership with the Rutgers-Camden Leaming Center). In addition, TRiO SSS provides a structured first-year transition program for new participants (first-years and transfers), holistic advice, support, and coaching, financial literacy, educational workshops, graduate school and career counseling, and grant aid.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of TRiO Student Support Services (SSS), the Student Counselor (SC) provides direct academic and holistic student support services to a caseload of undergraduates in the TRiO SSS Program. The Student Counselor monitors the success of TRiO SSS students and tracks their progress toward degree completion. They develop, implement, and participate in programs and initiatives designed to support the success of TRiO SSS students.
Collaboration with faculty and staff campus partners (e.g. Center for Leaming and Student Success, academic advising offices, Financial Aid, Career Center, Leaming Center, Disability Services, and other student affairs offices) on behalf of TRiO SSS students and in support of student success programming is an integral part of the Student Counselor responsibilities.
This is a grant funded position contingent upon the availability of funds to support it.
Minimum Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience and at least one year of experience in advising, coaching, or mentoring diverse groups of college students.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively.
- Working knowledge of student development theory, appreciative advising model, and other student-centered approaches.
- Ability to motivate students toward success and achievement of goals.
- Ability to process/analyze complex information and effectively communicate it to students, parents, and/or administrators.
- Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make proper referrals based on comprehensive assessments.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow through with assisting students.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to function in multi-campus and team environments.
- Ability to use personal computer and other office equipment.

Equipment UtilizedMS Office, internet, computer competency in reading and evaluating spreadsheets, databases, student information systems, and other computer-based platforms including Blumen, EAB and Qualtrics. Incumbent will use social media tools to communicate with students and other constituents.
SalaryStarting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.
