The Coriell Institute is looking for an External Affairs Manager to join our Non-Profit Organization.
The Manager, External Affairs will be responsible for engaging with policymakers, government agencies and community organizations; alliance development; strategic communications; and raising public awareness of the Institute to meet Coriell’s governmental and external objectives. Experience working with or within government is strictly required. Scientific experience would be an added asset.
Essential Duties and AccountabilitiesResponsibilities of the Manager of External Affairs include, but are not limited to:
- serving as an advisor to the Executive Team and developing and executing strategic government affairs, community outreach, alliance development and communications plans to support Coriell’s mission and goals and raise the Institute’s public profile.
- advocating for Coriell’s interests at all levels of government, particularly in regard to the State budget to maintain the State’s long-standing support of the Institute.
- building relationships with the business, research, life sciences and higher education communities and local community organizations.
- assisting in fundraising for Coriell programs.
- with subject matter experts at Coriell, collect, summarize, and prepare information for external distribution, including talking points, legislative summaries, factsheets, testimony, reports, and letters.
- Tasks, Projects, and/or Responsibilities, as assigned by the President & CEO of Coriell.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in government, communications, public relations, or public administration. An advanced degree is highly preferred.
Experience7+ years’ experience working within or with government is strictly required, with experience in or with New Jersey State government preferred. Experience working in or with the life sciences, research, or healthcare sector is a major asset.
The Manager, External Affairs will be expected to attend events during early morning and evening hours, and/or on the weekends. These events are considered integral to successfully fulfilling the requirements of the position.
Traveling will primarily be in-state, with occasional travel to the greater Philadelphia area and Washington, D.C.
This position is located and designated as an in-office role and is subject to the Institute’s hybrid work schedule, as allowed under the supervision of the President & CEO. Depending on meetings or projects being undertaken, there may be instances where onsite work is required on a more frequent/permanent basis than the Institute’s Hybrid Schedule.
The Manager, External Affairs must be able to be subject to normal physical requirements of an office position and must be able to be subjected to a travel schedule that is listed above.
The starting salary for this role is $75,000, but the salary offer to the final candidate will be commensurate with their experience. The position is eligible for common health & welfare benefits, participation in our 403(b) plan, a 7% Month Contribution to a 401(a), 20 days of PTO, 10+ Paid Holidays, and 7 Paid Sick days per year. The role would be afforded a suite of employer paid life and disability insurance, which is available for all full-time employees.
