Short DescriptionUnder the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), this role assists with patients’ activities of daily living and plan of care, communicates with and supports the healthcare team, patients and/or patients’ family or significant others, and maintains high standards of professional ethics.
Responsibilities- Supports activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assistance with mobility and transport. Demonstrates standard precautions including care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice.
- Performs technical duties as directed by an RN, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care specific to the population served, and documents appropriately.
- Identifies and communicates changes in patient’s status to an RN and responds appropriately. Demonstrates standard precautions including care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice.
- Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible parties regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
- Participates in Cooper patient satisfaction initiatives and goals, performance‑improvement activities, and assists in orientation of new hires.
- Completes annual unit‑specific competencies by specified due date.
- Attends staff meetings when available for documents review of staff meeting minutes.
- Assists in admission, transfers, and discharges of patients to and from the unit.
Kelemen 10 is a medical‑surgical unit caring for patients with a variety of needs and disease processes. Both North and South 10 have Telemetry capabilities and house up to 36 patients each with hallway areas, totaling a maximum of 76 patients. South 10 also contains a 12‑bed Intermediate Care Unit, staffed by critically‑care‑trained RNs who support ventilated patients. The unit includes two negative‑pressure isolation rooms used as needed.
Multidisciplinary rounds occur Monday through Friday, and a pharmacist is available on‑site to assist RNs and avoid care delays.
0–2 years of experience preferred.
Education RequirementsHigh School or GED required.
License/Certification Requirements- Successful completion of an unlicensed health‑care provider/technician program.
- Completion of at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited nursing program.
- At least one year of patient‑care experience in a similar role.
- AHA Basic Life Support certification – required.
At least one of the above qualifications/certifications must be met for hire.
Skills- Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Successful phlebotomy/ECG competency must be completed during orientation.
PRN days.
Hours:
7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with weekend/holiday rotation.
