• Administers or supervises anesthesia for all types of procedures where qualifications allow. Selects, obtains and/or administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. Is responsible for the complete medical care of the patients perioperative care – intra & postop.
• To provide general, regional, local and monitored anesthesia care services, including induction, maintenance and emergence and provide professional observation and resuscitative care.
• Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide care appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric population. This requires the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify age-specific patient needs, and to provide the care needed.
• Performs clinical teaching to residents, medical students, and nurse anesthetists, and other care providers, particularly with respect to airway management, pharmacology and physiology of anesthetic indications.
• Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and medications using basic or advanced cardiac life support protocols and provide medical consultation if required.
• Conducts a thorough review of patient’s charts to include history and physical, diagnostic testing, and a current physical assessment.
• Implementation of appropriate anesthetic plan based on patient assessment.
• Selects, applies, and or inserts appropriate noninvasive and invasive modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status.
• Demonstrates compliance with departmental policies and procedures and mandatory education requirements including but not limited to safety, infection control, attendance and dress code.
• Willingness to work on behalf of the department when requested even if this includes off hours for emergency purposes.
