Research Assistant; Laboratory​/Technical Assistant Casual

Position Summary

Rutgers University‑Camden is seeking a Research Assistant to support the work of Dr. Andrey Grigoriev  research will encompass computational studies of whole genomes and/or genome sequences. The support involves developing functional software in Python for analysis of large‑scale sequencing datasets, using machine learning methods, for Unix/Windows/Mac platforms.

Duties include writing reports with illustrations, analytical findings, narratives and conclusions regarding study results. This is a six‑month, grant‑funded position contingent upon the availability of funds.

• Develop functional software in Python to analyze large‑scale sequencing datasets.
• Implement machine learning methods for genomic data analysis.
• Create visualizations and interpret results using standard and self‑developed tools.
• Write reports with illustrations, narratives, and conclusions about study results.
• Work across Unix, Windows, and Mac platforms.

Minimum

Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory or research experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Master’s degree in computational biology, computer science, or bioinformatics, with at least three years of practical experience. Working knowledge and demonstrable skills in Python programming; analysis of next‑generation sequencing data; statistical data analysis and machine learning methods. Good written and oral communication skills in these research areas.

Salary: $22.50 per hour.

Position Status:
Staff – 12 month appointment.

FLSA Status:
Nonexempt.
