PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU HAVE HANDS-ON R&D/FORMULATION EXPERIENCE IN NUTRACEUTICALS, DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS, OR COMPLEX SOLID-DOSE PRODUCTS.
Location: On-site | New Jersey region
Comp: Competitive base, bonus and benefits (Dependent on experience)
I am partnering with a technically advanced nutraceutical contract manufacturing business to hire an R&D Manager/Senior Manager, R&D.
This is not a food science, beverage, sensory, or brand-only innovation role.
The business develops complex dietary supplement products across challenging dosage forms, materials, and delivery systems. The role needs someone who understands formulation, manufacturability, scale-up, troubleshooting, and the realities of moving products from lab concept into commercial production.
This could suit an experienced R&D Manager or an exceptionally strong Senior Scientist, Technical Manager, or similar profile ready to step into a broader leadership role within the R&D function.
What you’ll lead:- Lead R&D activity across complex nutraceutical and dietary supplement products.
- Support formulation development, scale-up, troubleshooting, and commercialization.
- Work across tablets, capsules, powders, beadlets, stick packs, or similar solid-dose/supplement formats.
- Partner closely with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, operations, and commercial teams.
- Help solve technical challenges around granulation, powder behaviour, flowability, compressibility, stability, coating, taste/odor masking, and release profile.
- Guide, coach, and develop formulation scientists and R&D associates.
- Bring structure, urgency, and technical judgement to a busy product development environment.
- Technical depth:
Work on products that many manufacturers would avoid due to complexity. - Impact:
Sit close to senior R&D leadership and play a visible role in product development, scale-up, and commercialization. - Progression: A strong step-up opportunity for someone ready to move from senior technical contributor into broader R&D leadership.
- Variety:
Exposure to challenging supplement formats, difficult materials, and advanced delivery approaches. - Minimum 6 to 10 years of experience in nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, VMS, private label supplements, CDMO, CMO, or complex solid-dose product development.
- Minimum of 2 to 4 years of leadership/management experience.
- Hands‑on formulation and development experience across tablets, capsules, powders, beadlets, or similar dosage forms.
- Strong understanding of scale‑up, manufacturability, and troubleshooting.
- Comfortable working closely with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and operations teams.
- Able to work on‑site in the New Jersey region.
- Thorough understanding of cGMPs, FDA regulations, dietary supplement regulations, and product development processes.
- Master’s degree in Pharma, Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a similar scientific discipline required. A combination of education and experience may also be considered if a Master’s degree has not been achieved.
- Nutraceutical CDMO or private label supplement manufacturing experience.
- Material science exposure, especially granulation, powder behaviour, flowability, compressibility, stability, dissolution, or release.
- Experience with modified release, delayed release, extended release, ODTs, mini‑tabs, coating, taste masking, odor masking, probiotics, or moisture‑sensitive actives.
- Pharmaceutical, pharmacy, pharmaceutics, chemistry, material science, or related degree.
- Prior leadership, mentoring, or people management experience.
- Experience taking products from lab development through pilot, scale‑up, tech transfer, and commercial launch.
