The Coriell Institute for Medical Research is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Automation Specialist to join our growing production team.
This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting automated workflows on a range of liquid handling and laboratory robotics platforms, including Hamilton, Tecan, and others.
The ideal candidate will need a strong understanding of laboratory automation, scripting, and assay integration to be successful in this role, which is to support our biobanking, genomics, and translational research efforts. Individuals who are unable to be an individual contributor in this role with limited oversight may not be ideal candidates for this position.
Responsibilities for the Laboratory Automation Specialist include the following:- Design, develop, and maintain automated protocols for liquid handling systems (e.g. Hamilton Microlab STAR, Tecan Fluent/EVO).
- Program and troubleshoot laboratory automation software such as Hamilton VENUS, Tecan EVOware, and Fluent Control.
- Collaborate with scientific staff to translate manual workflows into scalable automated methods.
- Calibrate and validate automated systems to ensure accuracy, precision, and reproducibility.
- Optimize liquid classes, tip usage, and pipetting parameters for various biological reagents.
- Provide end-user training, documentation, and technical support.
- Maintain equipment, manage preventive maintenance schedules, and coordinate vendor service and agreements as needed with the Procurement leader.
- Support integration of automation platforms with LIMS and data management systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory workflows through automation and process engineering.
- The ideal candidate for this role has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Biology, or another relevant STEM major.
- The Ideal Candidate exhibits 3 - 5 years of experience in automating and upkeeping various types of Laboratory Equipment in Research, Production, and/or Manufacturing industries
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others, dedication to patients, strong organizational skills, understand and follow standard operating procedures and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for this role.
The starting salary for this role starts at $85,000; however, the final salary will be commensurate with experience.
This role will be eligible to participate in Coriell's Health & Welfare benefits, receive an employer-paid Long-term disability plan and Basic Life Insurance Policy, and will be enrolled in a 401(a) plan that receives a 7% monthly employer contribution (Base Salary). The role receives an annual allotment of 20 days of PTO, 7 paid sick days, and up to 10+ paid holidays.
