Maintenance Mechanic

The responsibilities are to carry out general maintenance tasks as assigned and perform as a maintenance and construction technician on in‑house and outside construction projects as directed, and in the best interests of VOADV Property.

• Perform maintenance inspections, repair work, and perform construction project work as needed.
• Keep an accurate record of work completed, including time and materials, and work independently.
• Report all unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions immediately to the Construction & Maintenance Director.
• Attend and participate in job meetings and training sessions as required.
• Pick up and deliver necessary materials and supplies as needed or requested by the Construction and Maintenance Foreman.
• Keep an accurate record of the petty cash account.
• Responsible for the care and safekeeping of all department tools and equipment.
• Be available for on‑call emergency service as assigned.
• Perform as crew leader when necessary and as assigned by the director, supervisor.
• Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
• Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory conferences, and training sessions.
• Interact with all clients, staff, and outside contacts with respect and courtesy.

• Ability to climb stairs, and work from ladder while using or carrying tools.
• Ability to lift a least 50 pounds several times during an 8‑hour period.
• Ability to see clearly all types of plans, gauges, rulers and drive a light truck.
• Ability to operate power and non‑power hand tools.

High School or better.

A High School diploma or equivalent with previous work experience in at least one construction trade for a minimum of 5 years is essential. Carpentry and tile skills are preferred. Additional skills include knowledge of building structures, mechanical systems, and crew management. Communication and written skills are essential.
