This role focuses on maintaining and repairing heavy duty diesel trucks and related equipment, including performing brake repairs, preventive maintenance, and general mechanical repairs. You will diagnose issues, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, and ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy duty diesel trucks and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Perform brake repairs, preventive maintenance (PMs), and general repairs on diesel trucks.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on trucks, including engines and related components.
- Repair and maintain chassis components, including frames, axles, and associated parts.
- Service and repair vehicle refuse bodies and associated control systems.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including hoses, pumps, valves, and cylinders.
- Inspect, service, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and control circuits.
- Maintain and repair air brake systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
- Perform general engine work, including inspection, adjustments, and component replacement as needed.
- Service and repair HVAC components to maintain proper climate control within vehicles.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair suspension systems to ensure ride quality and vehicle stability.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair drive train components, including transmissions, drive shafts, and differentials.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair steering systems to ensure proper handling and alignment.
- Use personal tools and shop equipment to complete repairs efficiently and accurately.
- Document work performed, including repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities, in a clear and accurate manner.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working on vehicles and equipment.
- At least 3 years of hands‑on experience working with heavy duty trucks.
- Proven experience performing mechanical repairs on diesel trucks.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving mechanical and electrical issues.
- Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and related equipment.
- Ability to repair and maintain chassis components and vehicle refuse bodies.
- Experience working with hydraulic systems, including diagnosis and repair.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems on heavy duty trucks.
- Knowledge of air brake systems and experience maintaining and repairing them.
- Experience performing general engine work on diesel engines.
- Ability to service and repair HVAC components in vehicles.
- Knowledge of suspension systems, including inspection and repair.
- Experience working with drive train components, including transmissions and differentials.
- Ability to inspect and repair steering systems for heavy duty trucks.
- Capability to work independently and efficiently in a repair shop environment.
- Ownership and use of a personal set of tools appropriate for heavy duty truck repair.
Skills & Qualifications
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.
- Experience working specifically on diesel engines is preferred.
- Prior experience in a waste management or refuse vehicle maintenance environment is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing high‑quality repairs.
- Ability to follow technical manuals, diagrams, and repair procedures.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating work and documenting repairs.
