The Operating Engineer S2 – Critical Environments maintains and repairs electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment, machinery and controls located in the interior and exterior of the building. At the direction of a supervisor, the engineer is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and performing preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems.

• Perform tests, rounds and analyze data to ensure proper functioning of departmental equipment, including fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, controls, electrical lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear, emergency backup systems and hot water systems.
• Monitor operation, adjust and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating and hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and make adjustments where necessary.
• Install and repair plumbing/piping/tubing, wire single and three‑phase motors (single & two‑speed), run conduit, pull wiring to machinery, motors and operating parts, rebuild pumps and motors, install and rebuild air compressors, heat exchangers, replace bearings and seals, repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls.
• Install, repair and maintain electrical controls, switching and motor controls; operate and maintain critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers and critical air conditioning units.
• Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain a clean and safe workplace.
• Oversee contractor activities in the building, keeping records of rounds, readings, engineering logs and data sheets; advance training and notification to contractors so they are informed about critical functions and emergency escalation procedures.
• Ensure understanding of Critical Facility Work Authorization and adherence to critical awareness processes, technical bulletins, engineering guidelines, processes and procedures.
• Perform additional job duties as requested.

• Hands‑on experience in a data center/critical facility, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switch‑gear.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC’s (or within 90 days of employment).
• Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.

• Estimated compensation: 59,000.00 – 86,000.00 USD per year.
