Job Summary
You will serve as a WELDER in the Department of the Navy at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
Duties- Identify and associate metals, alloys, and filler metal by code and standard markings.
- Produce welds that meet acceptance standards of NDT, strength, tightness, or pressure tests.
- Use test methods for determining metals or alloys.
- Inspect completed welding projects.
- Operate various welding machines and processes to weld piping parts or structures.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct‑deposit pay program.
- Must pass E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Must comply with DoD appointment policies for recent retiree members.
- Must be registered for Selective Service if born after 12‑31‑59.
- Position may be a bargaining‑unit position.
- Must successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
- Must obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
- Must complete a pre‑employment drug test.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment during the work shift.
- Work may involve hazardous physical or chemical agents; medical surveillance may be required.
- Position may require exposure to high noise levels.
- Position may require travel within CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites.
- Position may require overtime, night, weekend, or holiday work; pay adjustments may apply.
Applicants must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position at the required level. The minimum eligibility evaluation includes a screen‑out element:
ability to perform the work without more than normal supervision. Applicants are evaluated against the Office of Personnel Management Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
Experience, including paid, unpaid, and volunteer work, is considered as part of the qualification assessment.

SalarySalary is based on geographical location and will be determined by the annual local wage surveys in accordance with 5 CFR Part 532. The wage schedule varies by duty station.
