Hengst of North America is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our Engineering team in Camden, South Carolina. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning projects from concept through launch. You’ll lead cross-functional product development projects, work directly with customers and suppliers, and be responsible for delivering projects that meet cost, quality, timing, and technical performance targets.
What You’ll Do:- Lead customer-driven new product development and launch projects from planning through implementation
- Manage project scope, milestones, resources, deliverables, budgets, and timelines
- Lead cross-functional project teams across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and other functions
- Serve as a key project contact for customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Track and report project KPIs, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions when projects deviate from plan
- Coordinate and support new product introductions and production readiness
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, cost structures, and risk assessments
- Support product and material master data within PLM and SAP
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, typically 3–4 at various stages of development
- 5+ years of product development or project engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical projects
- Strong project planning, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Experience managing project schedules, costs, KPIs, risks, and deliverables
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- Automotive or manufacturing industry experience
- New product introduction and product development processes
- SAP and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
- Power BI and data analytics
- PMI, Agile, or similar project management certification
