Job Description Summary
The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full‑time in the care of patients with neurological disease, treating patients with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as other cognitive & behavioral neurology diagnoses. This APP position functions in a team‑based arrangement that is part of the newly formed South Carolina Alzheimer’s Network (SCAN). SCAN is a multi‑site clinical program at MUSC Health designed to provide patients with an early and accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, longitudinal co‑management with primary care, access to the new Alzheimer’s disease medications, and access to the latest research.

RequiredTraining and Experience
Required Minimum Training
:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification
:
Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an Advanced Practice Nurse (FNP or APNP) with the SC Board of Nursing. Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP):
Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting. - FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
Required Experience
:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure, Certifications, RegistrationsAll certifications must be current and complete prior to start date.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
- Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
- Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
- Assesses, diagnoses, and manages outpatients with neurological symptoms, primarily to patients presenting with Alzheimer’s Disease or other cognitive & behavioral neurological disease. Recognizes and assesses changes in patient status, intervening when necessary, and implements measures to minimize risk.
- Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician.
- Documents and bills for direct care provided.
- Utilizes current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practices.
