Southern Custom Doors & Hardware is known for historical renovation work on prominent projects, including brownstones in New York City and landmark buildings in South Carolina. Based in Lugoff, SC, their products are installed in homes across the United States, Canada, and the Grand Cayman Islands. The team emphasizes craftsmanship, quality materials, and personalized service, often described by customers as creating “furniture on hinges.”

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site High-end Woodworker role located in Camden, SC. The High-end Woodworker will build, assemble, and finish custom and stock wood doors, cabinetry, and related millwork to precise specifications, using both traditional and modern woodworking techniques. Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting technical drawings, measuring and cutting materials, operating power and hand tools, and ensuring all products meet the company’s high standards for quality and detail.

The role involves collaborating with designers, project managers, and installers to support custom projects and historical renovations, as well as maintaining a safe, organized workshop environment. The High-end Woodworker may also assist in problem-solving on complex installations and contribute ideas to improve production processes and craftsmanship.

Qualifications
  • Strong woodworking and cabinetry skills, with experience in building high-end or custom pieces.
  • Proficiency in carpentry techniques, including measuring, cutting, joining, and finishing wood components.
  • Comfort and safety-conscious experience using power tools (e.g., table saws, planers, routers) for precision work.
  • Skilled use of hand tools (e.g., chisels, planes, hand saws, clamps) for detailed fitting and fine craftsmanship.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow technical drawings and specifications, and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to lift and move materials, stand for extended periods, and work safely in a busy shop environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with reliability and strong time management.
  • Prior experience in high-end woodworking, custom doors, cabinetry, or historical restoration is highly beneficial.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal training or apprenticeship in carpentry or woodworking is a plus.
