Service and Delivery Technician III

San Jose, CA (and surrounding area)

What You Will Be Doing

You will provide IT support to Safeway retail grocery stores in and around San Jose. This includes deploying equipment, installing hardware and software, and troubleshooting POS systems, scales, printers, and network servers. The role offers opportunities to work on various projects and learn new technologies, including full store support and networking with fellow technicians.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support standard hardware platforms and systems installed throughout Safeway.
  • Repair approved standard technology hardware including PC/Server hardware, Network hardware, RF hardware, and printers.
  • Provide complete recoverability of systems and applications.
  • Troubleshoot resolution.
  • Install new hardware and software.
  • Provide IT support to customers and meet service level agreement goals.
  • Provide network and remote connectivity support.
  • Maintain equipment inventory controls and policies.
  • Work with Support Center (STSC) on assignment of problems, support issues and concerns with computer systems.
  • Interface with all Corporate IT groups for on‑site support and technology resolutions.
  • Adhere to repair standards and service levels established.
  • Driving required for this zone service area (25% travel to King City, Morgan Hill, Hollister, Salinas, Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz stores).
What We Are Searching For
  • Excellent telephone, customer service, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to gather important information to resolve high‑pressure issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to present technical information clearly.
  • Working knowledge of IT hardware, installation models, Windows, MS Office, and related applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a strong collaborator in a matrixed organization.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts (day, evening, overnight) and on‑call support capacity.
  • Strong sense of urgency, business ethics, dependability, and follow‑through.
Qualifications & Experience
  • High school graduate; BA/BS degree preferred or 3+ years of technical/training/hardware certifications preferred.
  • Information Technology project implementation exposure, 5+ years of technical systems, and 2+ years’ technical support experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience with retail store systems, technology systems and hardware preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience with installation and configuration of desktop and peripheral technology preferred.
  • Must have a good, safe driving record and a reliable vehicle.
Physical Environment
  • Work may be performed in a temperature‑controlled environment.
  • Must sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time.
  • May spend long periods at a desk or computer terminal.
  • Will use keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required.
  • Workday is fast paced; some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment.
