Compensation and Benefits

Compensation ranges from $38.16 to $46.93 per hour depending on experience, location, and internal equity considerations. 8% License Differential for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PsyD and select Peer Certifications. 7.5% Bilingual Differential for qualified positions. About Our Program

CSU is a 23‑hour 59‑minute (day‑view) unit for youth placed on a 5150 hold requiring intensive stabilization. The goal is to divert youth from extended psychiatric hospital stays.

Schedule

Thursday 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
Friday 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
Saturday 7:00 am – 7:30 pm

This position is part of a program that adopted an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS). An AWS allows shifts no longer than 12 hours per day within a 40‑hour workweek without overtime premium until after the 12th hour or 40 hours worked in a week.

Job Summary

Responsible for the general medical and psychiatric care of youth. Applies practical nursing techniques and follows standard practices in caring for youth, including recognizing typical patterns or symptoms.

Responsibilities
  • Assist RN and Psychiatrist with implementation of nursing processes and youth’s medical treatment plan and medication orders.
  • Conduct medical and psychiatric screening in the context of a mental health crisis, with children presenting as a danger to themselves or others.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and oversee all pediatric medical treatment of youth within programs, including crisis response, de‑escalation, and initiation of higher‑level behavioral restraint interventions when needed.
  • Admit and discharge youth, completing health assessments using body charts, monthly vital signs, physical assessments, and determining physiological status.
  • Monitor and implement systems of care delivery for pediatric nursing/medical activities and pharmacological care.
  • Schedule medical, dental, and laboratory appointments considering medical requirements, service and transportation schedules.
  • Schedule external psychiatric appointments and follow‑up as delegated by attending psychiatrist.
  • Follow MD orders, oversee, evaluate, and implement all activities and functions around ordering, monitoring, documenting and handling medications, including emergency medication administration.
  • Maintain and manage medical and psychiatric records and PHI in an organized and timely manner to meet standards of care, accreditation, licensing requirements, and patient needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, organize and provide education to staff, parent, and youth regarding health, safety, psychiatric, and medication issues.
  • Be available on an on‑call basis after hours and on weekends to respond to special needs, including psychiatric emergencies with appropriate intervention.
  • Exercise judgment in recognizing basic symptoms indicative of adverse medication reactions, consult with supervisor or alert medical staff, and monitor medications for potential side effects.
  • Attend committees, team and staff meetings.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned to support specific department/business needs.

- High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of relevant clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (two years of relevant experience equals one year of education) including a prescribed course of study and training in a school accredited by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians of the State of California, and receipt of a license through the Board of Vocational Nursing or a certificate through the Psychiatric Technicians of the State of California.
