About the Role

The Proposal Writer is a key member of the Business Development & Marketing team, responsible for developing compelling, high-quality proposals that showcase Buttcon’s strengths and position the company to win new business. This role emphasizes strategic writing, clear messaging, and compliance while ensuring consistency across regions and alignment with Buttcon’s pursuit policies and procedures. The Proposal Writer collaborates with subject matter experts and senior leadership to craft persuasive narratives that reflect Buttcon’s expertise across delivery models, including Design-Build (DB), Construction Management (CM), and Stipulated Price projects.

Responsibilities
  • Assist as required with searching of procurement portals to identify new opportunities, flagging strategic pursuits for leadership consideration and aligning them with Buttcon’s business goals.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of large, multi-stakeholder proposals—including Design-Build, P3, and multidisciplinary submissions—ensuring seamless integration across teams.
  • Facilitate proposal kick-off meetings, using compliance and responsibility matrices to define roles, responsibilities, and timelines, and to establish clear direction from the outset.
  • Coordinate internal and external contributors to ensure all proposal content is complete, compliant, and developed in alignment with Buttcon’s policies, procedures, branding and quality standards.
  • Shape winning themes, client-focused messaging, and detailed compliance matrices that clearly communicate Buttcon’s differentiators and value proposition.
  • Guide the overall story arc of each submission—executive summaries, methodologies, management plans, and project narratives—to maximize persuasiveness and win potential.
  • Review solicitation documents, develop compliance matrices, and identify risks, opportunities, and evaluation priorities.
  • Ensure content meets compliance requirements while remaining persuasive, tailored, and client-focused.
  • Maintain consistency of tone, quality, and messaging across all regions, ensuring proposals reflect Buttcon’s brand and values.
  • Incorporate feedback effectively and drive revisions that elevate clarity, persuasiveness, and professionalism.
  • Partner with operations, estimators, and subject matter experts to capture differentiators and best practices.
  • Mentor coordinators or junior team members on proposal writing, storytelling, and compliance.
  • Maintain and enhance the proposal library (resumes, project sheets, boilerplate) to support efficient, consistent, and high-quality submissions.
  • Participate in debriefs and lessons learned, embedding insights into future pursuits to continuously raise standards.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, English, or a related field (an asset).
  • 3–5 years of experience in proposal writing, coordination, or similar roles in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) or professional services sector.
  • Proven ability to develop winning proposal content that is persuasive, clear, and tailored to evaluation criteria.
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and compliance-checking skills to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with experience handling multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate with technical experts and translate complex content into accessible, client-focused narratives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is an asset.
  • Familiarity with RFP processes, procurement requirements, and evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience with content libraries, templates, and document management systems.
  • (Preferred) APMP certification or professional training in proposal management, or a demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development.

The hiring range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000. The final compensation offered will be determined considering the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and location. Annual bonus opportunities are in addition to base salary.
