A well-established and growing food manufacturing business in Mid-Cornwall is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a temporary basis.

The business operates within a fast-paced, operational environment and plays an important role within the local economy, offering a supportive team culture and hands-on working environment.

Your new role

You will be joining the finance team to provide cover during a period of transition, taking on key responsibilities from a departing team member.

This will include managing the purchase ledger function, ensuring accurate processing of invoices, maintaining supplier relationships and supporting payment runs. You will also assist with product costings, working closely with operational teams to ensure accurate financial data is maintained.

In addition, you will provide support for weekly payroll processes, working from time and attendance data, as well as assisting with reconciliations and general finance administration.

The role is fully office-based, working 5 days per week, and will involve working with a bespoke AS400 finance system.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have previous experience in an accounts assistant or assistant accountant role, with strong knowledge of purchase ledger and transactional finance processes.

Experience of working in a fast-paced or operational environment, such as manufacturing, would be beneficial.

You will be confident working with data, reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies, as well as picking up new systems quickly. Exposure to payroll or time and attendance systems would be advantageous.
Strong attention to detail, a hands-on approach and the ability to work independently are essential.
