Job Description

As a Senior Legal Counsel (12-month contract), you will play a key role in supporting Workleap’s legal function during a period of continued growth. Reporting to the CFO and working closely with internal stakeholders, you will provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice across a broad range of topics, including privacy, corporate, commercial contracting, and employment law matters.

You will act as a trusted legal partner to the business, helping teams navigate complexity while enabling smart, scalable decisions. Your role will directly strengthen Workleap’s legal foundations and support the company’s operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities
:

  • Act as a trusted legal advisor to internal stakeholders and business leaders, providing clear, pragmatic, business-first guidance;
  • Provide expertise and guidance on data privacy, compliance, and regulatory frameworks across multiple regions;
  • Support corporate legal matters, including corporate governance and strategic initiatives;
  • Support commercial legal operations, including contract drafting, negotiation, and review (customer agreements, vendor contracts, and partnerships);
  • Collaborate with the broader legal and finance teams to ensure consistency, efficiency, and risk awareness;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and internal documentation;
  • Help reinforce a proactive, solution-oriented legal approach across the organization.

What does your future team look like?

You’ll join a collaborative and evolving legal function that works closely with teams across the organization, including product, sales, finance, and people operations. The legal team plays a central role in supporting a SaaS business operating at scale, partnering closely with leaders across the organization to enable sound decision-making and manage risk effectively. You will report to the CFO and work alongside internal and external legal partners as needed.

What are the next challenges awaiting your team?

The legal team is at the heart of several key initiatives: scaling our commercial operations, strengthening privacy and compliance, and supporting strategic growth across new markets. A top priority is positioning the legal team as a proactive, business-savvy partner helping to drive Workleap’s mission forward.

Qualifications
  • Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership with the Barreau du Québec for a minimum of 10 years;
  • Fluency in both French and English (written and spoken);
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive legal experience, with strong expertise in:
    • Corporate law;
    • Data compliance & privacy;
    • Bonus: employment law.
  • Ability to go beyond pure legal interpretation and provide pragmatic, business-first guidance;
  • High autonomy and sound judgment; able to make decisions with confidence;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal matters clearly;
  • Experience in a SaaS or tech environment is a strong plus;
  • Knowledge of privacy frameworks such as GDPR and other global regulations, and IP considerations, is a strong plus.
