Description
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator works to onboard and establish short-term, group and individual volunteers. This role works to establish and maintain volunteers in programs and initiatives within the Red Deer programs. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will work closely with program leaders and staff to maintain a full complement of volunteers.
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for all Red Deer volunteers including short-term, group and individual volunteers. The position coordinates with churches, businesses, schools, families, etc. to recruit, train, onboard and retain volunteers in roles that support programs and services at the Red Deer space. This position will also assist program staff with various duties during special events or seasonal activities.
The Volunteer Engagement team is designed to implement, support and facilitate volunteers on behalf of the program areas in supporting the mission and goals of The Mustard Seed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Overseeing the (recruitment) intake of volunteers including telephone interviews, background screening, training, and placement
Responding to volunteer inquiries via email and phone
Maintain the organizational culture of volunteer appreciation and engagement on all levels and throughout all departments of The Mustard Seed
Host and oversee the volunteer experiences as well as community and Mustard Seed sponsored events on evenings and weekends as they arise
Oversee volunteer protocol and relations and collaborate with Program staff to ensure a positive volunteer experience across all programming
Liaise with program staff to create opportunities and streamline existing volunteer workflows
Oversee court ordered community service and mandatory student volunteer opportunities; completing mandatory volunteer hour paperwork as required
Assist program staff on an as needed basis
Guide and support staff in their supervision, evaluation and recognition of volunteers
Maintain systems and procedures for volunteer recruitment, appreciation, development, training and retention
Daily maintenance of the volunteer database; produce and post monthly volunteer schedule, reporting on program stats; regular reassessment of volunteer policies; other administrative duties as assigned
Consistent improvement of volunteer processes including recruitment, engagement and retention
Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures (ex. incident reports, near misses), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, safeTalk, First Aid)
Other duties as may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
A passion to be part of ending homelessness in Alberta
University Degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field would be an asset (i.e. Human Resources, Administration, Volunteer Management, Customer Service, etc.)
Strong competency with computers, data management systems and experience in Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft Office programs
Previous experience working with volunteers is a benefit
Food Preparation experience is an asset
Enjoy working in a fast-paced role that involves multi-tasking and managing a diverse workload
Self-motivated and able to work independently and with multiple teams
Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills
Strong skill in written and verbal communication
Excellent administration, time management and organizational skills
Previous experience working with a marginalized population, particularly the homeless considered an asset
Access to own vehicle and clear driver abstract for TMS driving permissions, in addition to $2,000,000 in liability insurance
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role will have significant people interaction, both with staff and volunteers, but will also involve considerable administrative work
