Term Intermediate Environmental Scientist We are seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Victoria based team. The successful candidate will support project-specific delivery across construction monitoring, brownfield/contaminated sites, and marine and coastal projects. This role combines field work, technical reporting, and project coordination within a collaborative project delivery team based in Victoria, BC.
This term position is well suited to someone with consulting experience who enjoys working across field investigations, desktop analysis, and project execution. WHAT IS ARCHIPELAGO ALL ABOUT?
Archipelago has been around for over 40 years, and our Environmental Services group has supported sustainable coastal and environmental development for most of that time. Our multidisciplinary team works across marine, terrestrial, and nearshore environments, supporting infrastructure, remediation, restoration, and construction projects for government, industry, and First Nations throughout British Columbia and beyond. As well, Archipelago is at the forefront of fisheries monitoring solutions for fisheries around the world.

Our Fisheries Monitoring team create and deploy technology for commercial fishing vessels, at-sea observers and dockside monitors to collect data which helps manage global fisheries and ensure sustainability for generations to come. Our head office sits right on the water in Victoria (Esquimalt), British Columbia and we have offices in Alaska, Oregon, Australia, and in port cities up and down the British Columbia coast.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Environmental Scientist will provide technical support and environmental oversight on active projects. The role includes environmental monitoring, compliance support, data interpretation, report preparation, and coordination with project managers, subcontractors, regulators, and clients. Environmental and Technical Support Provide environmental advice and guidance to project teams and site personnel
Review historical reports and interpret site-specific scientific data to develop project overviews and technical recommendations
Identify data gaps and support regulatory and environmental overview assessments, including industrial sites (federal and provincial)
Support the development and implementation of environmental management and protection plans (EMPs/EPPs) Field Work and Construction Support Conduct environmental monitoring, compliance inspections, and field investigations during construction activities
Lead and coordinate field crews and subcontractors focused on environmental compliance and monitoring
Collect sediment and water samples for laboratory analysis in accordance with approved protocols
Oversee and document construction activities from an environmental perspective
Act as the on-site environmental representative for major marine infrastructure projects (e.g., jetty reconstruction), coordinating monitoring of water quality, underwater noise, sediment disturbance, and marine wildlife
Support project leadership teams during active field programs Reporting and Project Delivery Assist with technical report writing, including reports, memos, letters, and proposals
Compile, manage, and interpret environmental data, providing input to quality control processes
Support project managers with scopes of work, cost estimates, and deliverables
Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulators as required WHAT DO YOU OFFER? Environmental diploma or bachelor’s degree in biological, physical science, engineering, or environmental-related studies
Ability to become a Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) in British Columbia (e.g., AScT, RPBio, PGeo, Pag)
Minimum 3 years of environmental consulting experience or similar, including at least 6 months of construction-related applied science experience
Strong report writing and technical documentation skills

Experience with data compilation and database management (lab results)
Ability to obtain Federal Security Clearance
