This course is a non‑calculus survey course in Physics covering topics in classical mechanics and thermodynamics. Emphasis will be on applications of Physics in the life sciences. Topics include translational kinematics and dynamics, rotational kinematics and dynamics, linear momentum and conversation laws, work and energy, fluid statics and dynamics, introduction to thermodynamics.
74:161 Foundations of Physics II Lab, Section Z01, 0.75 credit hours Fall Term – Wednesday 13:40 – 16:30
This course is a calculus based introduction to classical mechanics and thermodynamics. Topics include translational kinematics and dynamics, rotational kinematics and dynamics, linear momentum and conservation laws, work and energy, gravity, fluid statics and dynamics. This course is intended for students considering further study in physics, engineering or the physical sciences.

Late in the 19th Century, many scientists believed there were few unsolved problems left in Science. Solving these problems early in the 20th Century revolutionized human thought and affected views beyond the realm of Science. This course will introduce you to the concerns developed during this pivotal time.
74:162 Foundations of Physics II Lab, Section Z01, 1.5 credit hours Winter Term – Thursdays 13:40 – 16:30
This course is a calculus-based introduction to waves, optics, electricity and magnetism, and quantum physics. Topics include heat, first and second laws of thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion and travelling waves, Coulomb’s Law, electric field and potential, electric circuits, Biot‑Savart Law, magnetic field and induction, quantization, photoelectric effect, Bohr atom, nuclear decay and subatomic particles.
74:273 Optics Lab, Section Z01, 0.75 credit hours Winter Term – Wednesdays 13:40 – 16:30
A study of reflection, refraction, lens systems, optical instruments, dispersion, achromatism, diffraction, interference, polarization.
Qualifications A M.Sc. in Physics is preferred, however, candidates with a
B.Sc. and a successful record of teaching experience may be considered.
Salary $8,132 per 3 credit course
