Young-Davidson Mine

The Young-Davidson Mine is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. Located near Matachewan, Ontario—centrally positioned between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay, and Sudbury—the site is a cornerstone asset for Alamos Gold. A highly automated lower mine expansion completed in 2020 has strengthened production and free cash flow, positioning Young-Davidson as a foundation for the company’s long-term growth.

Role Overview

As an Exploration Geologist
, reporting to the Senior Exploration Geologists, you will support and execute a wide range of geological activities associated with near-mine and regional exploration programs at the Young-Davidson Mine. You will play a key role in data collection, interpretation, and geological modeling, contributing to exploration planning and results that support the long-term success of the operation.

Key Responsibilities

Geological Data Collection & Interpretation: Collect, organize, and interpret geological data from exploration programs including diamond drilling, surface sampling, field mapping, and re-logging of historic drill core.

Logging & Sampling Standards: Ensure best practices are followed for drill core logging, sampling, QA/QC procedures, and database management.

Exploration

Collaboration:

Work closely with senior geologists to interpret geological information, support exploration plans, and execute work programs.

Geological Modeling: Participate in geological modeling and interpretation at the deposit and regional scale.

Health, Safety & Environment: Uphold strong safety, environmental, and operational standards and actively contribute to a culture of safety and accountability.

Reporting & Communication: Assist with technical reporting and communicate interpretation results to senior leadership and management.

Additional Duties: Support regional exploration activities and perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table

Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Science.

Registered or eligible for registration as a Geologist in Training (GIT) or Professional Geologist (P.Geo).

Recent graduate up to 5 years of experience in mineral exploration.

Strong understanding of geological principles, mineralogy, structural geology, and gold deposit models.

Experience logging diamond drill core.

Self-motivated with strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.

Experience with Leapfrog, ArcGIS, and SQL databases considered an asset.

Working Conditions

Rotational schedule: 14 days on / 14 days off

Site-based role at the Young-Davidson Mine, Ontario

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in core sheds, field environments, and mine-related settings

Capable of handling core boxes and conducting active fieldwork

Pay/shift range: $80,600 CAD - $128,750 CAD
