Aquatic Scientist

Location: Central Yukon (Dawson City)

Hybrid role based out of our Whitehorse office.

About the Role
The Aquatic Scientist will join Trinity Consultants Canada Water & Ecology, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver scientific excellence and innovative solutions across Canada. This position offers mentorship, training and opportunities to grow leadership skills.

Responsibilities

Lead and support the planning and implementation of fisheries and aquatic assessment projects across Canada.

Conduct assessments focused on fish habitat, community, and health, integrating geomorphology, limnology, hydrology, water and sediment quality, and benthic invertebrate communities.

Contribute aquatic expertise to large multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with senior staff, clients, government agencies, First Nations, regulators, and other partners.

Mentor junior team members and support knowledge sharing within the aquatic sciences team.

Represent the Water & Ecology team through high‑quality deliverables, industry engagement, and participation in technical conferences.

Qualifications and Skills

Advanced degree in a relevant field.

P.Bio. (or equivalent professional designation), or eligibility for registration.

Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including fish collection by various methods, fish community characterization, and fish population and health assessment.

Strong knowledge of statistical analysis.

Experience in the mining sector is an asset.

Experience in habitat characterization for Fisheries Act Authorizations and specialist knowledge of Canadian freshwater fish species habitat requirements.

Experience designing and implementing baseline assessment programs, including selection, establishment, and monitoring of water, sediment, fish, fish habitat, and benthic invertebrate community sampling stations.

Effective analytical and technical editing and review skills, ensuring delivery of high‑quality reports and proposals.

Ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.

Excellent time management, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.

Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality, excellence, and ethics.

Hands‑on expertise in planning and conducting aquatic field programs using various sampling techniques for water, sediment, benthic invertebrates, fish, and fish habitat; familiarity with QA/QC protocols and data integrity standards.

Experience operating boats and outboard motors in support of aquatic field programs is an asset.

Ability and willingness to travel to remote or northern project sites and conduct fieldwork in variable weather, terrain, and seasonal conditions.
