JOB DESCRIPTION
As the Environmental Reclamation Student, you will actively monitor reclamation operations and conduct field surveys, utilizing cutting-edge electronic data collection methods. Moreover, you will collaborate with the larger Environment team, supporting the monitoring of wildlife, surface and ground water, and updating information in our Geographic Information System (GIS) platforms. This position primarily focuses on fieldwork, providing you with valuable hands‑on experience.
Job location:
Fort McMurray, AB – Horizon or Albian Oil Sands Site
Shift schedule: 8 days on, 6 days off, 10 hours/day (Thursday – Thursday)
Term length: 8 months

May 2027

Key Accountabilities
Collect soil, vegetation, water, and wildlife data using field and electronic data collection methods
Support reclamation activities, including monitoring soil salvage and placement, revegetation, and site conditions
Conduct field surveys (e.g., disturbance mapping, pre-salvage assessments, wetland monitoring) and interpret results
Conduct environmental inspections
Assist with weed monitoring and control to support site reclamation efforts
Compile and organize environmental data for regulatory reporting, applications, and internal tracking
Use tools such as ArcGIS (Field Maps, Survey
123) to collect, manage, and analyze field data while maintaining a strong focus on safety
What You Bring To
The Role
Currently enrolled in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate or master’s program in Land Reclamation, Forestry, Environmental, Biology, or Natural Science
Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract
Physically able to handle the rigors of outdoor field work with long days
Previous experience in completing reclamation field work is considered an asset
Previous ATV and/or watercraft experience is considered an asset
Experience using ArcGIS collectors is considered an asset
Previous reclamation or oil sands experience is considered an asset
