Job Description Mac Kay Contracting is a progressive and well-established Heavy Civil Construction and Mining Services Company operating throughout Western Canada. We value our employees and offer competitive wages and benefits.
Location & Hours This role is based in Sparwood, B.C., with operations running 24/7 on various schedules depending on the project (e.g., 7x7, 5x2). Shifts are rotational, lasting 10–12 hours, with overtime paid after 8 hours. Flexibility to work overtime according to company policies is expected.
Responsibilities & Duties Ensure compliance with organizational, provincial, and federal health and safety standards, maintaining the highest safety standards
Operate multiple pieces of equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, and haul trucks effectively and safely within a team
Load and unload equipment from transport vehicles
Control heavy equipment to complete construction tasks
Operate in crowded, fast-paced environments with caution to ensure site safety
Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication, including hand signals, from operators and ground personnel
Perform mechanical inspections, minor maintenance, and servicing, including logging and lubrication within your skillset
Identify hazards through pre-job hazard analysis and ongoing site assessments
Work flexible hours and shifts as required
Adhere to all safety practices and policies
Operate equipment with awareness of surroundings
Submit daily time cards and FLHA forms
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills 3-5 years of experience in Mining or Civil Construction
Knowledge of construction layout/staking
Experience with 3D machine control is an asset
Understanding of safety protocols for heavy equipment
Coordination to operate equipment controls effectively
Physical strength to operate heavy machinery
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Safe and responsible operation of equipment
Effective communication and active listening skills
Problem-solving skills for diagnosing equipment issues
Basic writing skills for reports and paperwork
Safe driving record
High initiative and positive attitude
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with stakeholders at all levels
