Location: Vermilion

We are pleased to offer exciting opportunities for driven and self-motivated Heavy Equipment Technicians and a Mechanical Supervisor to join Mainroad Alberta Contracting (Vermilion) LP. In these roles, you will maintain and repair our fleet of vehicles and equipment. These are full-time, permanent positions based out of our shop in Vermilion, AB
.

Mainroad Alberta Contracting (Vermilion) LP has been awarded two provincial highway maintenance contracts (CMA 512 and CMA 513), covering approximately 2,160 kilometres of highway and 59 bridges. Operations will be supported through yard locations in Blackfoot, Edgerton, Dewberry, Wainwright, Vermilion, Viking, Killam, and Camrose.

Heavy Equipment Technician

The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Alberta Certificate of Qualification or Interprovincial Ticket as a Mechanic (Heavy Equipment Technician preferred).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic).
  • Completion of the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) or ability to complete within three months.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 3 with airbrake endorsement preferred).
  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing highway maintenance/snow removal equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
  • Ability to work shifts, call‑outs, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Willingness to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capable of performing heavy physical labor.
  • Leadership skills and ability to mentor an apprentice.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety‑conscious, dedicated, and committed.

Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Repair and maintain a wide range of company vehicles and equipment in accordance with established standards.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills to effectively handle all aspects of the work.
  • Provide cooperation, service, and respect to co‑workers, customers, and the general public.
  • Coach and mentor apprentices and other assigned employees.
  • Provide complete and timely records and reports as required by company policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure all assigned tools and equipment are accounted for and properly maintained.
  • Perform other related duties and special assignments as required and assigned.
Mechanical Supervisor

The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Alberta Certificate of Qualification, and/or Interprovincial Ticket as a Mechanic is required (Heavy Equipment Technician is preferred).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 3 with airbrake endorsement preferred).
  • Completion of the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) or the ability to successfully complete the CVIP within three (3) months.
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a supervisor.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a Mechanic.
  • Previous experience maintaining and repairing highway maintenance/snow removal equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
  • Ability to acquire and record accurate information.
  • Ability to work shifts (days, afternoons, nights), if required.
  • Ability to work call‑outs, weekends and overtime, if required.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capable of performing heavy physical labour.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to mentor mechanics and apprentices.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety‑conscious, dedicated, and committed.
