Job Description & How to Apply Below
Where Production Sets the Pace
For over 40 years, Mac Kay Contracting has delivered large scale earthworks, mine infrastructure, highways, and complex civil construction across Western Canada. When production matters and schedules are tight, our crews move ground safely, efficiently, and with purpose.
We are hiring a Production Excavator Operator who takes pride in clean truck loading, steady cycle times, and keeping material moving throughout the shift. This role is focused on output, consistency, and safe execution.
We are currently recruiting for this position with an estimated project start of mid-September.
How You Will Make an Impact
As a Production Excavator Operator at Mac Kay, your work directly influences productivity, safety, and overall job success. Your decisions at the controls affect cycle times, truck flow, and the ability of the crew to execute the plan safely and efficiently.
You are not just operating equipment. You are setting the rhythm of the job.
What You Will Get to Do
Load haul trucks safely and consistently in a high production environment
Maintain strong situational awareness around trucks, spotters, and ground crews
Read ground conditions and adjust to changing site conditions
Communicate clearly using radio, hand signals, and verbal direction
Complete pre operation inspections, logbooks, and light servicing
Keep your equipment clean and well maintained
Identify hazards early and take action to keep yourself and others safe
Support the crew when needed to keep production moving
Who This Role Is For
This role is for an operator who measures success through safe production and consistency rather than just hours worked.
You bring:
Experience operating excavators in production, mining, or mass earthworks environments
A solid understanding of truck loading practices and site flow
Knowledge of construction layout and staking
Experience with 3D machine control systems which is an asset but not required
A valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract
A safety-first mindset every shift
Schedule and Pay
This role is based out of Sparwood, B.C., working a 7 x 7 shift rotation. Shifts typically run 12 hours, with overtime after 8 hours. $200/day LOA and benefits after 30 days.
What Is In It for You
Competitive pay with consistent overtime opportunities
A company that genuinely prioritizes safety
Well maintained equipment and strong field support
Ongoing training and opportunities to grow your skills
A crew that respects operators who deliver steady production
Paid travel to and from site
Comprehensive benefits package
Live out Allowance (LOA) available for eligible candidates
Build production. Build trust. Build it right.
