We are seeking a Traveling Wind Technician to join our team.
Responsibilities- Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times.
- Climb heights of 300ft. and greater several times daily.
- Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines related to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
- Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and execute corrective actions or open a service case with the equipment manufacturer.
- Perform energy isolation in accordance with Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out procedures.
- Conduct pad‑mounted transformer switching in accordance with Hazardous Energy Controls procedures.
- Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
- Execute preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring, and evaluation.
- Maintain all aspects of turbines—including electrical, mechanical, civil, and related systems—in a safe, high‑quality, and efficient manner.
- Maintain EHS documentation and complete required paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo.
- Wind Technician – LevelI: High School/GED; complete LevelI job performance measures, training, and Deriva Energy Renewables Academy within 1 year.
- Wind Technician – LevelII: High School/GED; (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine TechnicianI and Electrical OperatorI JPMs during the probationary period.
- Internal Candidates: High School/GED; (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have completed Turbine Technician1 and Electrical Operator1 JPMs.
- AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or an applicable field.
- Experience with Vestas V82 and V90 turbines.
- Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies.
- High‑voltage and substation maintenance experience.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (e.g., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and hand and power tools).
- Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
- Competency with Maximo EZ‑Max mobile work and My Time management systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- CPR and AED training certification.
- TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training.
- Forklift certification.
- Valid driver’s license required; travel to projects expected.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and other hazards.
- Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents.
- Operate forklifts and commercial motor vehicles.
- Climb and work on turbine towers up to 300ft. daily.
- Lift up to 75lbs individually.
- Ability to walk, climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
- Work in all‑weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow).
- Complete OEM or third‑party technical specialty training program.
- Pass background check and drug test prior to start date.
- Weight restriction of 265lbs as an essential function of the job.
