A local manufacturer in Canby, Oregon is looking for a new Press Brake Operator. A Brake Press Operator, or CNC Press Brake Operator, bends sheet metal that can be used to manufacture various goods.

Job Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of a Brake Press Operator are to bend sheet metal in accordance with design specifications and to ensure each piece produced is free of defects. To meet these main goals, they may perform the following job duties:

  • Studying blueprints and specification sheets to understand technical requirements.
  • Setting a computer-controlled press brake to project specifications.
  • Ensuring proper positioning and alignment of metal inside the press brake.
  • Monitoring the pressing process.
  • Measuring and inspecting the finished sheet metal to ensure it matches specifications.
  • Troubleshooting and addressing problems that arise during the pressing process.
  • Performing routine maintenance on the press brake.
  • Complying with all health and safety standards in the manufacturing facility
Qualifications

To carry out their assigned tasks successfully, a CNC Press Brake Operator needs a strong set of skills:

  • In-depth understanding of the parts of a press brake and how the machine works.
  • Computer skills to operate CNC software.
  • Ability to remain upright and perform repetitive movements throughout most of a work shift.
  • Arithmetic skills to perform measurements and calculate settings.
  • Ability to move heavy or large pieces of sheet metal from one place to another.
  • Observation skills to monitor the pressing process and inspect metal after pressing.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations for the manufacturing industry.
  • Familiarity with blueprints and the terminology used in technical specification sheets.
